Marrakech

Framed by the snowy heights of the Atlas, with rose-colored ramparts and a thousand year old palm grove, Marrakesh casts a magic spell.
Marrakech or Marrakesh, known as the "Pearl of the South," is a city in southwestern Morocco in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Marrakech / Murakush is a Berber word which means the Land of God. Marrakech has the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and also has the busiest square in the entire continent of Africa: Place Jemaa el Fna.

Like many North African and Middle Eastern cities, Marrakech has two main divisions: the old city (médina) and the modern city. The city is enclosed in a protective wall, 15ft high, 6ft wide and 7.5 miles long build by the Almoravide Ali Ben Youssef in 1132. The majority of historical sites and monuments can be found inside the ramparts.

The Medina of Marrakech is one of Unesco World Heritage Sites.
